Baja SAE is a competition series created by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) that tasks students with creating a single-seat, off-road vehicle every year. Each competition includes a variety of events to evaluate each team’s engineering, design, and business skills. As a team, we design, build, and test an off-road vehicle for competition each year. If you're interested in joining our technical and business teams, check out the discord server in the footer!
Every season culminates in competition, where our car and our team are put through a mix of static and dynamic events against schools from around the world.
Technical inspection, business presentation, and design judging. In tech inspection, vehicles are examined for complete adherence to the rules and safety requirements before being allowed to participate in the other events. For the business presentation, teams compete for a fictional contract to mass-produce vehicles for a customer whose requirements change annually. The presentations are evaluated by judges acting as company executives.
Acceleration, sled pull, maneuverability, and the endurance race are where most of the fun happens. Events like the acceleration test and sled pull measure specific performance characteristics of the car. The endurance race closes the competition, pitting every team against each other in a four-hour wheel-to-wheel race, with points combined with the static-event scores.
